Through these works I explore the emotional web of human expression. In the figure studies I was interested in the concept of creating an imaginary space in which my female forms could exist. A certain psychological intensity is portrayed in my paintings as I attempt to tackle the Male Gaze reclaiming the female form as non-sexualised, strong and capable of existing outside of patriarchal constraints. This strength is symbolized by the application of thick, built up impasto oil paint causing the figures to rise from the canvas, contrasting against the bare, stark, bright background.
